Honor regularly defends and prosecutes in the Crown Court and Youth Court. She is instructed in a broad range of criminal matters. This includes violence, dishonesty, drugs and driving cases on both a public and privately funded basis. Honor also has experience in appellate work, having successfully appealed to the Court of Appeal with leave granted on both occasions.
Honor is also instructed to present cases on behalf of the Nursing and Midwifery Council and to defend cases brought by the regulator including Social Work England and the Nursing and Midwifery Council. She has appeared in front of the Fitness to Practice Committee at both substantive and non-substantive hearings.
In addition, Honor has experience defending in extradition proceedings.
Prior to joining Chambers, Honor worked at the legal department of CAIWU, a trade union for cleaners. Honor represented members in employment tribunal cases and in disciplinary and grievance hearings.
Honor joined Chambers after successful completion of her 12-month pupillage.
R v FK – Lewes Crown Court (2023) In these POCA proceedings, on the basis of Honor’s skeleton argument, the Crown conceded the assumptions (totalling £150,000) on the basis that they were incorrect and there would be a serious risk of injustice.
R v MS – Court of Appeal (2023) EWCA Crim 391 [2023] Honor successfully appealed a sentence on the grounds of totality and that time spent on remand had not been taken into account. Honor argued that the custodial term of the suspended sentence order was manifestly excessive and that the sentence did not take into account the time served on remand. The Court of Appeal agreed and quashed the suspended sentence order and re-sentenced him to a short custodial sentence which was deemed served.
R v AO – Central Criminal Court sitting at Holborn (2023) Honor secured an acquittal for her client charged with possession of a knife and assault occasioning actual bodily harm on the basis of self-defence.
R v HP – Wood Green Crown Court (2023) Honor secured acquittal for her client charged with burglary. The defendant’s fingerprints were found at the scene of the crime, a barber shop. Honor also successfully resisted a bad character application of other burglaries on the basis that it was being used to bolster a weak case.
R v – Hove Crown Court (2023) Honor, representing the prosecution, secured a conviction in this GBH case.
R v VA and others – Maidstone Crown Court (2022) Junior counsel in multi-handed VAT fraud worth over £2 million.
R v FK – Lewes Crown Court (2022) Junior counsel in Modern Slavery Trial.
R v RA – Court of Appeal (2022) Honor successfully appealed an indefinite restraining order imposed on her client in favour of his daughter. The original order was quashed. A new restraining order was imposed which was limited in duration and which permitted contact the Family Court allowed.
R v MM Cambridge Crown Court (2022) Honor secured a unanimous acquittal of her client charged with possession with intent to supply cannabis in prison.
R v AR Harrow Crown Court (2022) Honor successfully appealed a 6 months detention and training order sentence imposed on a youth. The sentence was replaced with a suspended sentence order.
R V CG – Willesden Magistrates’ Court (2021) CG was charged with driving on the hard shoulder of the motorway. Honor secured CG’s acquittal on the basis that he had only stopped due to an emergency.
R v MU Stratford Magistrates’ Court (2021) MU was charged with driving whilst under the influence of drugs. Due to submissions made by Honor as to the quality of the evidence, the case was dropped on the day of trial.
R v JT – Stratford Magistrates’ Court (2021) JT faced two charges of assault on an emergency worker. Honor made a successful submission of no case to answer to one charge, resulting in the first charge of assault being dropped. After extensive cross-examination of the officers, JT was acquitted of the second charge of assault.
R v LP – Romford Magistrates’ Court (2021) LP was charged with assault by beating. At the close of the Prosecution case, Honor made a successful submission of no case to answer. The case was dropped against LP before he gave evidence.
R v AY – Highbury Magistrates’ Court (2021) AY faced a charge of assault on an emergency worker. After Honor’s examination in chief of AY and extensive use of the body-worn footage, AY was acquitted on the basis that any contact with the officer was a mistake.
NMC v FM – Fitness to Practice Substantive Hearing (2023) Honor represented the NMC in this case involving charges of lack of competence. The majority of the charges were found proved, impairment was found and the proposed sanction was imposed. Honor successfully resisted an application for no case to answer and abuse of process.
NMC V AS – Fitness to Practice Interim Order Hearing (2023) Honor represented the midwife in this interim order hearing. Honor persuaded the Fitness to Practice Committee to impose an interim COPO that allowed the midwife to still work as an agency worker.
Romania v MC and TC – Westminster Magistrates’ Court (2022) Honor represented one of the RP’s in a case involving an issue of whether the offence for which the RP was being sought was in fact unconstitutional and therefore invalidated the warrant.
Hungary v AR – Westminster Magistrates’ Court (2022) Honor represented the RP involving issues of s.20 and article 8.
