Caroline Carberry QC and Joel Smith secure first FGM conviction

Caroline Carberry QC and Joel Smith conducted the first ever successful prosecution for female genital mutilation (FGM) in the UK.  They prosecuted a mother for the offence of committing female genital mutilation on her daughter at the Old Bailey. This is the first successful prosecution for this offence in the UK since it became illegal in 1985.  Press reports here
