Edward has led in a number of trials with a strong reputation for defending in heavyweight criminal cases and the ability to persuasively deliver his client’s case to a jury.

His practice ranges from allegations of murder, cases involving torture, drugs conspiracies, people trafficking and allegations of serious sexual offences. His experience in defending cases covers undercover surveillance, witnesses in close protection, cell-site analysis, forensic evidence, anonymous witnesses, PII issues and grass evidence. He has successfully challenged expert evidence on forensic DNA analysis, medical injury causation, computer analysis, drugs, facial mapping and forensic accounting.

Edward has also represented nurses, police officers, and other professionals charged with misconduct before the courts and in disciplinary proceedings.

He has also been involved in defending members of the armed forces in courts martial hearings, in this country and abroad at both district and general level.

A passionate sports fan and non-league football supporter, he has represented clients before sport’s disciplinary panels, for banning orders and advised football clubs. He represented one of the respondents in the most high profile football banning order case that received international press coverage involving Chelsea fans on the Paris Metro in 2016.

Recent Cases

R v AA & others 2023 – Central Criminal Court, leading counsel for AA charged with conspiracy to murder with a firearm, involving the targeted shooting of a person in public, successfully acquitted on a submission of no case to answer.

R v DP & another 2023 – Isleworth Crown Court, led junior. DP charged with murder involving complex issues on causation, acquitted of murder.

R v SV 2023 – Isleworth Crown Court, Junior Alone for SV, acquitted of attempted murder.

R v OU 2024 – Central Criminal Court, leading counsel for OU who is profoundly deaf charged with attempted murder by arson of his ex-partner and her one year old child and the first prosecution for religiously aggravated stalking on Instagram.

R v AA 2024 – Croydon Crown Court, junior alone, AA charged with transphobic attempted murder of a sex worker by cutting her throat.

R v MR & others 2023 – Southwark Crown Court, leading counsel in a people trafficking conspiracy.

R v CO & others 2023 – Winchester Crown Court, led counsel for CO charged with murder. CO was a vulnerable defendant requiring the services of an intermediary.

R v SM 2023 – Inner London Crown Court, Junior alone for SM charged with the discharge of a handgun at another on a public street.

R v SR 2023 – Woolwich Crown Court, junior alone for SR charged with serious child sexual offences.

R v YM and others 2022 – Southwark Crown Court, junior alone. YM charged along with others of rapes, serious sexual assaults and false imprisonment of a vulnerable complainant following a five year police investigation. Significant failings in the investigation were brought to light and following an application to stay proceedings, not guilty verdicts were secured.

R v JC and others 2022 – Isleworth Crown Court, junior alone involved shooting in a drugs background. JC faced charges of perverting the course of justice including disposal of the body, Prosecution and others defendants represented by KC and junior counsel. Cut-throat between JC and first two defendants. JC was acquitted.

R v BR and others 2021 – Woolwich Crown Court, leading junior on a firearms conspiracy and attempted murder, involving a shooting outside a central London Nightclub. BR was said to be the supplier of numerous firearms.

R v DW 2021 – Inner London Crown Court, junior alone, serious historic sexual assaults and rapes against a family member.

R v GW 2020 – Central Criminal Court, led junior in murder by stabbing. GW had significant learning difficulties and required an intermediary for trial. Acquitted of murder.

R v KH & another 2019 – Central Criminal Court, Led Junior in a murder involving the stabbing of a well-known music producer, acquitted of murder.

R v DM & others 2019 and 2020 – Hove Crown Court and retrial at Southwark Crown Court, led junior on a murder arising from a drugs gang conflict and with a background of terrorism.
