Kane Sharpe’s client acquitted of section 18 wounding with intent and section 20 malicious wounding, following a 4-day trial at Southwark Crown Court.
The prosecution alleged that, during an argument with his mother in her home, the defendant attacked her with a kitchen knife causing significant injury.
The defence argued that the defendant’s mother initiated the attack with two knives, forcing him to restrain her, and that the injuries were sustained during the ensuing struggle.
Kane successfully persuaded the trial judge to admit the mother’s numerous previous convictions for dishonesty and violence, dating back 30–50 years.
The jury returned unanimous verdicts of not guilty in under 45 minutes.
