Katie Jones Secures Acquittals
Katie Jones and Sarah Smith of Tildens secured acquittals after trial for their client in respect of three offences of possessing bladed articles committed on three separate dates over a two month period. Their client had feared for his safety and purchased a number of machetes and hunting knives online, which he was found to have carried repeatedly in public. In a trial at Brighton youth court, the defence argued successfully that their client feared imminent attack from other young people in the area. Their client was also acquitted of an affray which saw him brandish a machete on a crowded public bus on Boxing Day.
