Manveer Cheema secures unanimous not guilty verdict in landmark Princess jewellery theft trial.
At Southwark Crown Court, Princess Firyal of Jordan gave evidence in respect of her one-of-a-kind jewellery collection that had been ‘looted’ from her Belgravia home.
The Princess — the first and only high-ranking Royal to have given oral evidence in a UK criminal trial in modern legal history — was cross-examined at length by Mr Cheema. It was put to her that she had ‘bent the truth’ in her testimony. The defendant had been the Princess’ housekeeper at the time, and two items of jewellery belonging to the Princess, including her engagement ring from the late Prince Muhammad bin Talal, were found at the defendant’s home. The defendant’s nephew was responsible for selling the Princess’ stolen collection via an auction house, whereby he sent large sums of money to the defendant.
In less than 2 hours of deliberation, the jury reached a unanimous not guilty verdict after having been provided with the full and complete context of the prosecution evidence.
Manveer Cheema was instructed and expertly assisted by Rajvinder Dayal of RBB Law.
