Modern Slavery Victory in Multi-Kilo Drug Trial

Manveer Cheema, led by Archangelo Power, secure not guilty verdicts for their client indicted with multiple counts of conspiring to supply Class A controlled drugs.

The prosecution case was that the defendant was a willing and trusted high-tier member of an Organised Crime Group involved in the supply of multi-kilo quantities of Class A drugs. The evidence comprised of covert observations and intelligence, extensive telecommunication between the conspirators, numerous drug-related pictures and videos from phone downloads, as well as a multitude of text messages, including the defendant threatening and controlling others (all of whom had been found guilty).

The defence called expert medical/psychiatric evidence, as contested by the Crown, to support the defendant’s case of modern slavery, namely, compelled to act in the way alleged with no realistic alternative throughout the year-long indictment period.

Described by many as a ‘movie’, the trial was linked to one of London’s most notorious crime families, EncroChat, firearms, rappers, actors and more.

After two hung juries, spanning 10 months of trial time, the prosecution offered no evidence in respect of all counts.
