Prominent war surgeon cleared of supporting terrorism by Medical Tribunal

Soraya Bauwens represented Dr Ghassan Abu Sittah, a prominent war surgeon and Rector of Glasgow University, before the Medical Practitioners Tribunal over allegations of misconduct arising out of his social media activity.  The General Medical Council alleged that Dr Abu Sittah was supportive of terrorism.

On 9th January 2026, the Tribunal dismissed all of the allegations against the doctor, who maintains his good standing before his regulator.
