Rachel Rodney’s client unanimously acquitted of coercive and controlling behaviour in an intimate relationship and ABH, after a 5 day trial.

The prosecution alleged that the client had engaged in controlling behaviour against his ex-partner during the course of their 18 month relationship. It was alleged that this behaviour included physical violence and isolating the complainant from family and friends, which caused the complainant to suffer from PTSD. In respect of the ABH, it was alleged that the client punched the complainant’s foot causing significant injury.
Rachel argued that the complainant was exaggerating what was simply a dramatic and unhealthy relationship and that the complainant was jealous her ex partner had moved on quickly following their break up. Further that the complainant’s MH conditions were caused by issues entirely unrelated to the defendant. Finally, that the injury caused to her foot was nothing more than an accident and that the complainant had lied about the circumstances surrounding the injury.
The jury deliberated for 3 hours before unanimously finding the defendant not guilty of both counts.
Rachel was instructed and expertly assisted by Toby Brothers, of Toby Brothers Legal solicitors.
