Richard Hearnden secures the conviction of child groomer and rapist with the alibi that never was

Richard Hearnden secured the conviction of Inam Ullah Khan at Lewes Crown Court, on 3 July. Khan, 37, contacted and groomed a 14 year old girl from Suffolk before raping her in his car on the night of Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral. Two years later, he groomed a 12 year old girl in East Sussex before driving from his home in Northamptonshire to sexually assault her in his car after offering her alcohol and vapes.

Khan was implicated after both girls picked him out on identification parades. Yet, he continued to maintain that he was elsewhere at the time of the crimes, including being at a party on the night of the late Queen’s funeral and playing a computer simulator game at the time of the second attack in which he was, undoubtedly, logged in under his name and password.

In his closing argument to the jury, however, Richard described Khan’s defence as being ‘the alibi that never was’ after he showed that while Khan was indeed logged in at the time of the second attack, the same data also showed that he was still playing the simulator after his arrest and remand, something that was impossible.

The jury unanimously found Khan guilty of all seven counts. He remains in custody to be sentenced at a later date.
