Sahara Fergus-Simms’ client acquitted of 4 counts of rape after 6-day trial at Snaresbrook Crown Court

Against the backdrop of what the Crown stated was corroborative medical evidence and parallel family court proceedings, Sahara’s client was acquitted of 4 counts of rape over a 2-year period.
In an emotive case, the jury heard almost 4 hours of ABE evidence and read a series of WhatsApp messages between the client and his ex-wife, who had also alleged that she had been raped a week before giving birth to their child.
It was argued that the messages, areas of the complainant’s testimony and key areas of the medical evidence, significantly undermined the accounts given and that the allegations were designed to affect the client’s immigration status and access to their child after the relationship had turned sour.
