Man walking past railings

Sahara Fergus-Simms’ client acquitted of s18 GBH at Wood Green Crown Court after 8-day trial

The case was a retrial after the first jury had been discharged due to court availability. The complainant, a drug user, alleged that he had been stabbed in the eye causing extensive injuries including a fractured eye socket. The forensic evidence (blood and DNA) belonging to both client and complainant found on the weapon was vigorously challenged. The client’s case was that the allegation had been fabricated as the complainant had assaulted him and that the complainant’s injuries were caused by a friend who had been cuckooing him. The complainant was cross-examined extensively on inconsistencies between his evidence during the first and current trial.
