Shazia Aboobaker Siddik’s client acquitted following appeal against conviction in Wood Green Crown Court

Shazia Aboobaker Siddik’s client acquitted of a Section 5 Public Order Act offence arising from an incident at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

The case centred on the evidence of a single eyewitness and a police officer. Running the defence of identification, Shazia exposed contradictions in the eyewitness’s account. She challenged the identification procedure and the police’s failure to pursue all reasonable lines of inquiry. Under cross-examination, the police officer conceded that there had been a “massive oversight”.

The conviction was overturned, preserving the client’s good character.

Shazia was assisted by Beatriz Garcia of Stuart Miller Solicitors.
