Tim Devlin successfully prosecutes man accused of attempting to murder a prison inmate

After a lengthy and complicated process, with considerable legal input to examine relevant authorities, Tim Devlin has successfully prosecuted a man accused of attempting to murder a prison inmate

In October 22, McRae was a serving prisoner in HMP isle of Wight, who had recently had his appeal against a conviction for rape turned down. Having been denied social time that day due to poor behaviour, he obtained some boiling water from a kettle and went to another prisoners cell. He then threw boiling water over that inmate and then attacked him with a knife he had made out of razor blades melted into a tooth brush, and slit the mans throat from ear to ear. A prison officer intervened – he prisoner had the bleeding stemmed until he could be taken to hospital, and survived. He then said that as he was in prison for something he didn’t do, he may as well be there for something he had done.

McRrae has sacked his legal teams twice, refused psychiatric examinations and then refused to be represented. He remains, said the Judge, a serious risk of harm to the public, staff, previous partners and others. He has a dissociated sociopathic disorder according to the one psychiatrist who spoke with him.

Mr McRae has been sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 14 years.
