Acquittals at Isleworth Crown Court for client who was charged with the joint enterprise murder of a 61-year old man

Nicola Shannon KC, leading Parveen Mansoor, achieved acquittals at Isleworth Crown Court for her client who was charged with the joint enterprise murder of a 61-year old man and a further assault on a woman who was said to have intervened. The acquittals came at the conclusion of a four- week trial in which Ms Shannon KC’s client was placed first on the indictment and was said by the prosecution to have taken part in a joint-enterprise, spontaneous attack involving punches and kicks to both complainants by two men following a drinking session at the deceased’s home address in South-East London. The prosecution relied upon the eye-witness evidence of the female complainant who was successfully cross-examined in pre-recorded evidence to reveal multiple aspects of unreliability and untruthfulness. Pathological evidence was also probed in respect of a potential weakness in the evidence of causation of death. The case involved a cut-throat defence being advanced successfully including cross-examination of the co-defendant when both defendants chose to give evidence: Ms Shannon’s client was acquitted following jury retirement of less than a day, while the co-defendant was convicted of manslaughter.
Ms Shannon KC and Ms Mansoor were instructed and expertly assisted throughout by Christian Briscoe of Temple Vale Solicitors.
