R v F: Woolwich Crown Court – The prosecution alleged D met the complainant outside a nightclub, took her to his flat, and violently raped her orally and vaginally. Lucy advanced that the encounter was consensual and that she fabricated the allegations. The case required detailed neurological and toxicological analysis due to her limited memory, extensive cross-examination, as well as detailed analysis of hours of CCTV footage showing her movements before meeting D. D was unanimously acquitted of all counts.
R v B: Southwark Crown Court – The principal defendant was tried and convicted at an earlier trial of sexually assaulting a young woman on the side of the road in Soho. Lucy’s client and the co-defendant were alleged to have aided and abetted that assault by actively intercepting concerned bystanders by insisting their encounter was consensual and turning them away. The case involved 5 eye-witnesses, all of whom insisted D was actively discouraging them from helping the woman. The case required initial legal directions to the jury regarding the complex elements of aiding and abetting assault by penetration. D was unanimously acquitted.
R v U: Inner London Crown Court – Lucy successfully prosecuted a fashion designer who sexually assaulted and attempted to rape an aspiring model 11 years his junior. Exploiting her ambition to start a modelling career, he lured her to his home twice under the guise of photoshoots for his brand, where he sexually assaulted her and, on the second occasion, attempted to rape her. The jury unanimously convicted him of all five counts.
R v R: Maidstone Crown Court – Lucy successfully prosecuted a child rapist. The defendant was released on licence in September 2018 following serving a custodial sentence for raping his two nieces aged four and eight at the time. By October 2018, he had met a woman on an online dating app who had three children, the youngest of whom was seven years old. He began grooming the youngest child by forcing him to watch gay pornography and exposed his penis to him on multiple occasions. This abuse continued for several months until the defendant was recalled to prison. He was unanimously convicted and given a sentence of life imprisonment.
R v C: St Albans Crown Court – Lucy successfully prosecuted a dangerous stalker. D met V at work and, after having only met in person twice, began a months-long campaign of stalking against her and her partner. He discovered her address, sent unwanted gifts and letters, and tried to damage her professional reputation after she rejected his advances. His behaviour escalated to phoning her with threats of rape and, hours later, breaking into her home at night with seven condoms. He stole her childhood journal, returned a few hours later, broke in again, and was arrested at the scene. The trial involved over 12 legal arguments. He was convicted on all counts.
R v B: Snaresbrook Crown Court – Lucy is Leading Counsel for a defendant charged on a 10-count indictment including rape, blackmail, intimidation, controlling and coercive behaviour, threats to disclose an intimate video, and ABH.
