Lucy McGarr successful in the prosecution of revenge porn trial

Lucy McGarr was successful in the prosecution of revenge porn trial, involving two defendants who were in a relationship at the time of the offences.

The female defendant encouraged her partner, the male defendant, to film himself having sexual intercourse with a third-party without her knowledge. He then sent the recording to the female defendant.

The male defendant pleaded guilty on the day of trial to offences of voyeurism and disclosing a sexual video with intent to cause distress to the victim he had filmed.

The female defendant stood trial for encouraging her partner to commit voyeurism believing that it would be committed. The case involved over 5,000 pages of messages between the co-defendants about their plan to commit voyeurism.

The jury rejected the defendant’s explanation at trial that she did not believe her partner would commit voyeurism, and returned a unanimous guilty verdict in less than one hour.
