Lefi Siatta and Harry Garside’s client acquitted of perverting the course of justice.
After a three week trial at Southwark Crown Court, Lefi Siatta, leading Harry Garside, secured the acquittal of their client, charged with perverting the course of justice.
The allegations took place in the wake of a gangland shooting in 2022. The client, who was first on the three-handed indictment, was accused of a facilitating the shooter’s escape from the country, and attempting to dispose of the vehicle linked to the shooting. The shooter has never been apprehended and remains at large.
The majority of the evidence served related to their client, whose 78,000 page phone download was served as used evidence, and formed the core pillar of the Crown’s case.
Through systematic review of the extensive evidence, including production of their own phone bundles, the team was able to show that the key assertions made as part of the Crown’s case were fundamentally misconceived. It was clear that the when all of the evidence was properly considered in detail, the client was innocent of the allegations.
