Unanimous Acquittals after 9-Day Trial at Reading Crown Court

Jon Swain and Ronan McCann, expertly assisted by Harvinder Hear at Hudson Marshall and Leah Osei at Midtown Law respectively, secured unanimous acquittals after a 9-day trial in Reading. Jon Swain was representing a father accused of using excessive force in self-defence, when he stabbed a man who attacked him and his son (represented by Ronan McCann), with a baseball bat in their own front doorway. He also, with his son, faced an accusation of violent disorder and possessing a bladed article, and an offensive weapon respectively.

The defence was that the attacker, from a neighbours’ family who had a grudge against the defendants, had gratuitously attacked them after growing tension, despite the defendants continuously seeking help from the local police. Both defendants retained their good character having been acquitted.
